Pioneering Affordable Senior Living in Transcona

We go beyond just providing apartments – we're cultivating a vibrant community where every senior feels a true sense of belonging, connection, and support.

Welcome to 500 Widlake Senior Living, proudly presented by Widlake Properties. As a non-profit organization driven by community volunteers, we're excited to offer 95 affordable apartment units specifically designed for those aged 55+. Our modern, energy-efficient building, situated at 500 Widlake St., blends seamlessly into the serene parkside setting of the quiet Transcona neighbourhood.

This project has been made possible through the generous support of United Lutheran Service Club, a charitable organization, and  the local Kiwanis Club both experienced in not-for-profit housing. Drawing on the success and financial stability post-mortgage of Carriage House North, a 100-unit senior complex, United Lutheran Service Club has extended its support to the development of 500 Widlake.

Our project is steered by a dedicated volunteer Board, bringing together diverse expertise in management, trades, legal, accounting, and engineering. This skilled team ensures every aspect of 500 Widlake Senior Living meets the highest standards of quality and care.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our donors, community clubs, and government representatives who have played a pivotal role in bringing this affordable housing initiative to life. At 500 Widlake, we're not just building apartments; we're creating a community where seniors can thrive in comfort and security.


500 Widlake Design Features 

500 Widlake, an innovative and affordable living complex designed with the 55+ community in mind, located in the friendly neighborhood of Transcona.

Building Features

  • Four-storey building with crawl space.

  • 2 -Car Four stop Hydraulic passenger elevators.

  • Acrylic mouldings in the exterior to give it a more residential feel.

  • Central heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system for all common spaces.

  • Individual fan coil units located in the utility room of each suite to provide heating &

    cooling via ceiling duct distribution system.

  • Three central hot water tanks are provided.

  • Smart sprinkler system throughout the entire building, each suites & all common areas.

  • Expansive main lobby to cater to residents & visitors

  • Property manager’s office located adjacent to the main lobby for easy access to

    residents’ immediate needs.

  • Large seating area in typical upper floors adjacent to elevator lobbies to offer another

    place to socialized with your neighbours.

  • Multi-purpose room with an attached commercial kitchen in the main floor suitable to

    the wide range of activities from holiday occasions, birthday parties to having fitness

    activities like dancing or yoga that is also separated from the rest of the suites.

  • Fitness Room provided to offer residents an active lifestyles & be fit that consists of free

    weights including dumbbells and some machines.

  • Activity Area to allow residents to delve in a more social activities like hobbies, reading, puzzles, paintings, etc.

  • Accessible shower area provided near the fitness area & MPR.

  • Common area washrooms supporting the MPR, Activity area & Fitness room.

  • Refuse chute room on every floor on the north side of the building.

  • Communal laundry on both ends of the building in every floor.

  • Janitor rooms on both ends of the building on the main floor.

    generous shelvings.

  • Modern single control lavatory faucet.

  • 1.5 gpm Shower system kit with 36” long slide-grab bar & hand shower (3-function

  • personal shower with pause feature).

  • Modern linear LED lighting over the vanity area above the mirror.

  • Night lighting provided in the all suite bathroom for comfort & to avoid turning on the

  • Each suite is pre-wired for cable TV and high-speed internet including demarcation enclosure provided for modems/routers c/w dedicated 120V, 15A circuit and duplex receptacle.

  • RG6 Coax cable and CAT5e wiring is provided to the living room and each bedroom for connection of tenant supplied equipment (televisions, telephones, modems, etc.)


  • Secure vestibule entrances with access controlled by an Enterphone’s system & closed- circuit TV monitoring system.

  • FOB keyless entry system to building.

  • CCTV cameras located on the perimeter of the building as well as inside the building.
